INSTRUCTORS
Iñaki and Kathy are known for their technique, musicality and passion. Their dance partnership began in 2013 and led them to teaching the first Sensual Bachata class in Portland in 2017. They continue to train, perform and teach both locally and internationally and are committed to bringing the magic of movement, music and connection to all levels of dancers.
IÑAKI
Iñaki Villanueva Torres is a dancer, singer-song writer and musician. Growing up in Mexico City, music and dancing were always a big part of his life, from dancing Salsa, Cumbia, and Boleros at family parties, to being exposed to Guitar Trios, street band performers, and Mariachi bands at his Dad’s Cantina. Iñaki’s professional musical training has provided a strong foundation for his dance career. Over the past decade his passion and dedication has led to opportunities to perform, compete, choreograph and teach Sensual Bachata. Iñaki’s clear technical understanding, musical interpretation and playful teaching style ignites the creative dancer in us all.
KAT
Kathy Wu is a dancer, performer and instructor with over 20 years dancing experience. Her training includes classical ballet and competitive Latin ballroom. Kathy began dancing salsa in Los Angeles and has had the opportunity to dance on teams directed by world champions Cristian Oviedo, Anita Santos Rubin, and Yared Martinez. Her Portland ladies’ teams include collaborations with artists all over the world including a funky Cha Cha by Sharon Pakir and Latin fusion choreographies by Franco Rocha and Brenda Liew. Her diverse training allows her to work and dance in many different styles and apply her knowledge to developing beautiful, expressive dancers with strong fundamentals.
